when the executives speak – three poetic responses

[ 2020 – corona, no rhyme or reason ]

I.
i can see that you can talk the talk
but do you bring your body
with you

do your words touch your heart
can you feel them in your feet
and in your knees
can you feel them in your lower body,
in your shoulder
and can you feel them in your left hand

i can hear that you can talk the talk
but do your words touch
your heart
if not they cannot touch mine either

II.
somehow your face remains untouched by your own words
look at the camera
look at your own portrait on video
you are on zoom
but are you
how much of you is
do you sync your lips
with the rest of you

if i turned off the audio
could i see what you say
if i turned off the video
could i hear what you say
if i didn’t speak your language
could the sound of your voice
tell me what you say

think about it
no
lean your heart into it

III.
now is the time
now is your chance
to try a new approach
a new attitude towards the world
and towards yourself

don’t use big words
before you can feel what they mean
don’t use big words
and wipe them out instantaneously
with your body
you are on camera
we can see you
behind these big words

oh, you didn’t shave for a few days
to make it look like you are a normal person now
 - like me and all the others
oh, there is a fridge in the background
so it looks like you have a kitchen like a normal person now
- like me and all the others
oh, the lighting is a bit off to make you look more normal now
- like me and all the others

you can’t hide your riches
you can’t hide your privilege
don’t fool me by not shaving for a day
don’t fool me by sitting in front of a fridge
don’t fool me with bad lighting
you are reading off a script

how dare you pretend that we are equals
how dare you show off
bits and pieces of what somebody told you would make you look more normal

you don’t even dare to speak freely
risk to stumble while talking to me
risk to not find the right word
risk to make a mistake
risk to sound like a normal person
speaking live in front of their laptop camera

you read these big words off a script
you’ve hurt my feelings
